Today’s is the tongue twister: Standing Separate Leg Head to Knee Pose or Dandayamana-Bibhaktapada-Janushirasana. (Try saying that three times!)
The posture:
The aim in standing separate forehead-to-knee is to create maximum compression in the front side of the body. This pose is also known as the ‘six pack posture’ because of the way that it strengthens the abs when done correctly. The endocrine system benefits the most from this posture as a thorough compression can help to boost the metabolism and immune system. Remember the important thing about this posture is getting the forehead to touch the knee; that is what will reap the benefits. It’s not so much about stretching the hamstrings. So if you need to bend your forward leg to get your forehead to touch, do it! Always try to keep the back leg straight with your heel on the ground.
