You have probably heard about chia seeds being a superfood and something we should all be eating. If you have wondered what all the fuss is about, it's just that these tiny seeds pack a mighty punch in terms of nutritional value.
They are rich in fibre, which helps ensure a healthy digestive system.
They contain high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids - good for anti-inflammatory effects as well as enhancing brain and potentially heart health. They are also a good source of protein & amino acids.
This combination of fat, protein and fibre means these little beauties are digested slowly. This slow release of energy helps to keep blood sugar levels stable.
A couple of my favourite ways to eat them:
1. Mix with some yogurt and leave in airtight container in the fridge. Eat for breakfast topped with fruit and granola. Or make into a pudding by add a little cinnamon and honey, or grate some dark chocolate on top!
2. Make a quick and easy chia jam - gently heat some mixed fruit berries or blueberries for a few minutes, mush up the fruit into a pulp, take off the heat, add a couple of spoons of chia seeds and some lemon juice to the mix. Leave to cool and keep in airtight container.
Enjoy!
